Click here to read An Introduction to Net Neutrality: What it Is, What it Means for You, and What You Can Do About it

There has been a lot of talk in the news about net neutrality.  You may recall that Comcast wanted to block/charge for access to Netflix’s online streaming.  Well, the FCC is working to regulate access to the internet.  Take a look at this post from Lifehacker that gives you a primer into net neutrality.

As I attend North Central College, I tend to find myself studying in coffee shops, the school library, or at Panera regularly.  One thing that was suggested to me was to carry some tech tools along just in case.  Now, you may be a work warrior who spends the time at the coffee shop or just someone who needs to have portability.  Life Hacker has some ideas on what you need for your tech pack.  Here is what I have:

  • Thumb drive.  I have a small four holder for my thumb drives.  I have one for schoolProduct Details that is a Titanium Sandisk Cruzer.

I have been running Comodo Anti-Virus for some time on my computer and am overall happy with it.  As you likely are already aware, when the anti-virus softwaimagere kicks in to scan your computer creeps to a halt.  Apparently Microsoft Security Essentials is lightweight and has a very good review (so says one large PC magazine)…so, I offer this from LifeHacker:

“Microsoft’s next version of Security Essentials is actually a pretty great update from its already-great predecessor. Microsoft’s option has always been adequate at finding new malware without definitions, but the addition of an heuristic engine bumps its power up quite a bit. It may be subject to a few more false positives, but you’re much less likely to get hit with malware than ever before.

I noted a post on LifeHacker about “What to Expect in Google ChromeOS” I am not so sure about this cloud computing.  After all, earlier this week some people lost their connections to Comcast (I didn’t, thanks to OpenDNS) and some people took down MasterCards server.  What if this should happen to you?  Do you really want to rely on the expensive cellulaWhat to Expect in Google Chrome OSr connection??

Don’t get me wrong, I have and/or use Google Voice, Gizmo5, Youtube, a Chrome based variant, Google Web Search, GMail, Google Apps for Domain…well you get the picture.  I’m practically married to Google…but this cloud thing, I don’t know

When I first got cable it was through Continental Cable, then they merged into Media One, then they swapped to Comcast.  Well, Continental was great, MediaOne ok, and Comcast’s cable service is fair at best.

Ok, so I had originally developed the link directory to work with a really, really old version of WordPress.  That was fine, until Word Press was updated.  Anyway, I have added a new Link Directory – one that y’all can add links to.  As I am resurrecting this blog into a new webpresence for me, myself, and I – your help would be appreciated.

I do not have a link to the blog in general yet, but am working on it.  Anyway, to go directly to the links visit: http://www.livin4jc.net/blog/directory/

Ok, so it has been quite busy along these parts.  I am watching the season finale of October Road.  It’s a pretty good show.  I started watching it on account of Bryan Greenberg.  He was on One Tree Hill.

So, last month I purchased a new Toshiba Laptop from Office Depot.  They are not only a top notch store, so is their staff.  They not only had the best price, they have always had good service.  And you can always return anything without a service charge.  Finally, they always stand behind their products and rebates.

It seems to me that it was Seminarian Powell whose fieldwork church lost everything in a HD crash.  It happens.  I noticed that Nathan Fisher also experienced problems.  I have had hard drives fail and have lost data.  It is with seeing brother Fishers comments that I want to offer my advice.
