As we are in the holiday season we are getting a lot of thank you’s from the places we do business.  Some send greeting cards, others post cards, and yet some emails.  However, many of these greetings are generic “May you have a great holiday and a wonderful new year.  Two that stuck out in my mind that I received recently are:

Johnsen & Taylor (a local Christian bookstore owned by Tyndale Publishers)

Unexpected, but appreciated.  Clearly offering me a warm greeting, but also encourages my return business – ever so subtly of course.  I love Johnsen and Taylor.

image Ok, if you haven’t used the CTA, you are missing out on alot.  I was skeptical several years ago when I decided to take a bus and the "L" rather than drive, but was pleasantly suprised.  It is cheaper than driving, more environmentally friendly, and traffic really doesn’t matter (after all have you seen how the bus drivers drive!).

Well, the CTA recently made a Bus Tracker application so you can see when the busses arrive.  Although it does not have one of the routes that I use, about 1/3 of the routes will be live on Monday.  It is a fantastic service allowing you to determine when the next bus is due in!    More will arrive in July.  Works from the mobile phone as well…

It is a shame that my first post in over six months is one about CPH. I have spent thousands of dollars at CPH over the past few years – most of which were CPH products. I have shopped at the CPH store on Jefferson Street in St. Louis as well as the bookstores at Concordia Seminary, Concordia Theological Seminary, and Concordia University Chicago. I have never experienced a problem in their stores. The materials are top notch and have improved greatly since Paul McCain took over. However, I live fifty miles from River Forest (an easy hour and half trip in traffic) so I must obtain CPH materials in other ways.

Ok, so I went to Office Depot back in the end February and purchased a piece of software which had a $60 manufacturers rebate making the product free.  I sent the information within a week.  After the eight weeks (I waited nine) allowed I tried to contact the company to inquire as to the status of the rebate.  They only take requests via email, so I sent emails every day.  After a couple more weeks I was frustrated and contacted Office Depot for assistance in contacting the company.  Unexpectedly, the wonderful staff at Office Depot apologized for the inconvenience and stated that I should have received the rebate by now.  So, she checked the small rebate I had sent in with this product (which I cashed a month ago) and saw I had the paperwork…  then she asked if I would be willing to accept a gift card.  Knowing how little I shop at Office Depot I thought this was a fair offer (they know me by name at Office Depot!).  After faxing the documentation to them (always save copies) I waited….a week later I had a gift card. A+ for service.
